Next year I'd like to start propagating a bit; darn, I was in a horticultural program before we moved and I wish I would have taken plant propagation! But I was more interested in flowers then and wasn't as important...
ANYHOW, (how easily I get sidetracked), I'd like to learn more about rootstocks and wonder where I can do that, besides this forum.

On another thread, Millet gave the properties of trifolate as:
(clip) Salinity = Poor, High pH=Poor, Clay Soil = Good, Wet Soil = Good, Drought = Poor, Freezes = Intermediate to Good, Burrowing Nematodes = Susceptible, Foot & Root Rot = Tolerant, Tristeza Virus = Tolerant, Tree Size = small, Tree Yield = Large. Sour Orange is very susceptible to Tristeza virus, so if this virus is in your area, you would not want to use sour orange as a root stock. - Millet

Is there a master chart that I can look up types of rootstocks and their properties? I live in TN so the information for CA or FL or TX might not apply.

Thanks for any help!
Susan

What Zone are you? Also when your area gets a freeze does it stay below freezing during the day? What is the duration of the cold snap?
I have had good luck ( so far) with the regular PT. I have heard that in south western British Columbia, a zone 8 with lots of winter rain, the Dunstan citrumelo rootstock does well too. This will be my first year trialling D. citrumelo. I think that seeds are readily available for this cultivator.

Susan, I too have no experience propagating anything - citrus seems like a logical choice. It sure gets noticed around here...

Susan, purchase a copy of the "Florida Citrus Rootstock Selection Guide" the guide gives general characteristics of 19 citrus rootstocks. About 99 percent of the guide will apply to your trees in TN. You can purchase the guide form the University of Florida Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences (IFAS). You can also probably purchase the guide from Florida Science Source, Inc. www.ultimatecitrus.com/fssource - Millet
