I hope there's a good alternative... Smile

I can't imagine the site owner being blocked because "they" think he is spam.
There is a big problem but I have enjoyed the citrus forum very much and there is no way to measure what I have learned and no way to measure how much I have enjoyed it. Thanks. Tom

Tom, Laaz doesn't mean to stop the site but to change the software running it (and probably the provider).
They are many that are better than forumup. For example the one used by agrume-passion: phpBB.
The hard work is to transfer the archives!!! You must be good on working on data bases...

@Sylvain - This is a phpBB powered board, too, and it still sucks... Laughing

@Laaz - Can you have an access to mysql (or whichever database phpBB uses) dump file? Is there any reliable, free phpBB host which allows users to restore the database from their own dump file? I mean very very few hosts would allow you do that because of the security issues which then may arise. If either of the answers is NO, then we cannot negotiate, but stick to what we've already got. Otherwise we're risking the loss of access* or the precious data itself**, which have been collected (posted) over the course of past couple of years. Which, in my opinion, isn't something we should do. Sad But I agree with you, that this is starting to be very annoying... I just can't see any solution to our problem, other than hope it gets fixed soon... Laughing

Best,
Igor

* Loss of access to the data - In case we make this forum read-only and start a new one, they usually close inactive forums after a while. Even if we keep running both forums at the same time, switching from one to the another, and vice versa, would be troublesome.
** Loss of the data itself - In case we just move, and decide not to run this forum anymore.

Yes you're right! Laughing The problem must be the provider.

They all do that otherwise you couldn't do backup copies.
And if you're the owner there is no problem to restore a DB from the backup copy.

The real problem is that it rarely goes right and then you have to be good in DB management (when everything goes wrong...).

I think the way to go is to say nothing to the previous provider. To work precociously and secretly to the new site and then flip to the new site when every thing is OK. Easy to say, not so easy to do.

I know, it just gets very aggravating at times. I started this forum in 2005 & have had very few problems up until now.
