I have a couple of potted dwarf Myers lemons I have been growing indoors for a 5-6 years. They are in 16" diam pots and are roughly a 2' "bush" above the pot now. They are doing well (after some ups and downs) and fruit regularly.

I am in the process of putting in a GH, and would like one or two Myers in it, but I am unsure whether it would be better to transplant one of these potted trees or start with a new bare root one from a nursery. I would like the GH tree to eventually be 10' high. It seems that one of these would grow much bigger once their roots can expand; and that starting with one of these already fruiting trees would get lemons much sooner than a new small tree.

What do people think, will the potted tree grow up when it is in real dirt? Other downsides which would point to getting a new tree?

TIA

Yes, if you plant it in the ground it grow much larger & faster. Mine is about 12 ft tall now & about the same wide. Mine is also a rooted cutting.
