I made 50 pints of changshou kumquat marmalade this year and had as many kumquats left on the tree. I've decided to topwork the center of the tree to several mandarins. At least I can eat those up and still have plenty of kumquats! It looks like changshou kumquat makes quite a large tree. My tree started out it's life as a sunquat seedling that fruited in 2 years. This year I've let one sunquat branch grow but it has thorns at least 2 inches long. One branch is about my limit for sunquats. The tree was planted in 2000. My attempt to topwork to xia shan last year didn't work too well as I left too much of the top on.

Mrtexas,

Best of luck! I am sure your grafts will grow well this time.
