I have acquired my first blood orange tree. It is a 5 gallon size tree that is about 5 feet tall. It has two main trunks with most the leaves at the top of it's branches. It does however have some branches that currently don't have any leaves on them and they are turning brown. Should I cut these brown branches off the tree? Thanks, Tim.

I would cut them off--just past the green.

Yes I cut them off. That is normal in the winter and spring for some branches to die back.

Hey Tim, A photo would really help in this situation. There may be more going on then just regular die back. Sometimes poor soil drainage will cause this. Did you get a normal growth flush in spring?

It is a new purchase; however, it does have new growth spurts on different areas of the tree. However, some of the branches with no current leaves on them are just turning brown...not the main trunks. Thanks, Tim.

Is it a nursery that only does potted plants or does it do field grown also?

Tim, as I'm sure you already know, small twig die back is very common, and somewhat on going over the life of a citrus tree. Just remove them. Good luck with your trees. Take care. - Millet (964-)

On my Improved Meyer Lemon tree one of the branches had lost its leaves and was dying back. I left it for a while but this spring I cut just past the green and now the branch has leaves all over it.
After I trimmed a few other branches it caused a growth flush all over the tree.

I have cut all the brown branches as suggested just below the point where the branch is still green; now, other areas of the tree are showing an abundance of very small fresh growth...too early to tell if these will be more branches or leaves. Thanks, Tim.
