Unfortunately, I don't think I really did. I did however remove with a hose all of the hard packed medium that was in the small pot. So the roots were exposed and had some opportunity to move a bit, but for the most part I left them circling.

Do you think it would be worth it to pull up the plant? I has been in the pot for about 2 months.

I would, leave the tree alone. Because you removed an inch or two from the outer edge the root ball, it will probably begin to grow into the new medium. - Millet (577-)

Thanks for the advice. I will leave it be. The tree looks healthy right now, so why mess with it.
