Yes for this cultivar (Rubino) but later in the season. I had to pick up this clementines because a mouse (I presume) bite them.

It looks great. Does anybody in the states have one? Or is it one that will be a while?

References on the web, that I have looked at, say Rubino clementine is a orange fruited variety with a red blush. The fruit pictured has an unnatural red coloring. So red it makes me suspect it has been doctored.

Ned I believe there are two different "Blood" clementines available in Italy & Europe and both have the deep blood coloring.

From looking at the two halves, one can see that where JM begun to cut the fruit, the albado on both halves are the natural white in color. As the knife moved back and forth through the red pulp the juice on the knife blade begans to color the albado. Further as the knife came nearer to the bottom of the cut the coloration of the albado became darker red. I do NOT think that the fruit has been altered in any manner what so ever.. If it had been altered (dyed) the beginning of the cut would have also been colored by the dye. This fruit might have been mistaken as a Rubino, or not, but I certainly do not believe the fruit has been doctored. I have been in the dye business for over 30 years, and I can certainly tell that a dye has not been added to this fruit. It seems very natural to me. - Millet (721 ABO-)

Of course I could be wrong about the picture, but it does not fit the description of the Rubino clementine that I read on the I link provided, or any others that I saw in my brief web search. If there is a clementine with this unusual red coloration, one would think it would be pictured and/or described elsewhere. I have to see some sort of confirmation to accept this as the fruit's natural color.

Ned, if I remember correctly, I believe if you look through this forum, there have been several posts in the past about our members growing colored Clementines. I have not heard of one here in the US, but I believe I have heard of them in some of the European collections. Take care and say hello to you wife for me. - Millet (371 ABO-)

Sorry JM! Maybe it is time for me to eat a little crow here. I have it on good authority that there is a red clementine like the one pictured,

As far as I know it is not available yet in the USA. When it becomes available in the USA, it is certainly to be a hit with citrus collectors. - Millet (371 ABO-)
