Hello!

I have found an interesting variety in the internet: Karlik 2 (not Karlik 1). See http://www.citrusyunas.estranky.cz/clanky/citrusy/citrusy-z-byvaleho-sssr.html (Google translator helps).
Does somebody have this plant?

Greetings from Germany,

Karlik 2
Description and origin: dwarf hybrid created in VS in Sochi (Black Sea hybrid mandarin unshiu, C.leiocarpa, grapefruit and trifoliata). It is very decorative, very hardy (on trifoliate short to -16 ° C). Fruits small, flattened, and with edible pericarp. It is also the suitability of the apartment.

ObrazekRouby I received in April 2005 from the greenhouse to Kociánka - literally "last minute" because the tree died the following year ... I grafted on trifoliata weaker seedling. The first year (2005) grew only a few leaves, but already the following year created a nice, compact crown. After wintering in the greenhouse (already in the year of grafting without problems weathered plant frost -6 ° C) in spring 2007 for the first time nakvetla plant (17 buds) that gradually blossomed from 3 to 20.5. I left the two fry, the plant itself still provide for reduction of one fetus. With accrued and partially colored fruit was included in the collection at the club show in early November. After the show was located on the south window of the house to ripen. The fruit was harvested 29.12.2007. He was pale oranžovozelený, flattened, 48x39mm, with an indentation at the stigmas, the pericarp thin (2mm) well peeled, slightly brittle. The flesh is dark orange, 8 irregular, easily separable segments, membranes are very thin, almost unnoticeable. The fruit was very juicy, slightly sweet with a higher, but pleasant acidity, tasty. Over the winter the window remains unheated room.

ObrazekNa spring of 2008, a very nice picture and put one bud. Bud blossoms 05.30 and creates the fry that accrue during the summer. Due to the later flowering and relatively cool summer fry is compared with the result of the previous year in the same period is much smaller (diameter 32mm).

"Karlik" is the phonetic transcription of russian name of the plant: "карлик"
It means "Dwarf".

There are some uncertainty, which one is which in collections. Some said that that from Adavo nursery is Karlik 2.
Fruits of plant from Adavo nursery are presented here: http://93.99.158.35/forum/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=391&p=17641&
(pictures of plants of some members of that czech forum).

I am rather skeptical on its pedigree. From what I know many of these Soviet varieties are just nucellar seedlings of satsumas.
Most probably selected dwarf and rather hardy variant nucellar seedling from satsuma pollinated by the mix of the pollen of several citruses.

Hi Serj,

interesting. "Gorniy" is a new name for me. And your plant really fits the description of Karlik 2 above?

Greetings,
