All these satsumas that I've never head about... Does anyone have any experience with this cultivar? I'm curious to know how it differs from Owari.

Thanks and best,

Never heard of it. It may be just a seedling from another named variety...

Must be a made up name. Don't think it is a certified citrus cultivar. Seems there is a so called new mandarin "variety" every other week anymore. - Millet

I have definately heard of it. Seen it for sale at Petals from the Past and maybe big box stores too. I think it is out of Texas and named after a town there. I think Dr Powell likes it ok. I think it is very early and mentioned in some of Dr Powell's extension papers when he was with Auburn. Tom

To set the record straight. It was one I planted from a seed at Port Neches Texas. Way back in the 1980s. Unless Dr. Powell still has It, I do not. Also there were BC1 and BC2 that were good. I believe Tree search farms in Houston TX still has them in their collection.

Thank you Bonnie and Tom. Every day when one learns something new, it is a good day. I have Bonnie's BC-1 growing in my greenhouse. Presently the tree is full of fruit that are still unripe, but should start turning orange, and be ready to eat, in a month or so. My BC-1 has produced fruit in previous years, which I rate as very good. I recomend it both for taste and the tree's ability to set a full crop. - Millet

There are 3 more seedling satsuma trees that I have never mentoned before. Boyette #1, #2, ad #3. The number 1 is the best best, the other 2 are also good. They are fairly large trees and do not get the best of care. iI gave Terry Reed a start of these several years ago and he has since requested more bud wood.
