After toiling since August 1 on getting it ready for sale, the for sale sign went up on our house in Beaumont today. We moved to Missouri City, TX near Houston a month ago. 14 full size citrus trees are left. I cut down at least as many to make a backyard again. House is brick and 2,850 ft2 + 75 x 25 garage and 2 car portico, parking for 7 cars. 600ft2 in garage is an air conditioned shop with half a bath.

The economy in Beaumont is bad which is normal, other parts of the country would call it recession. Sometimes it is worse than bad like depression. Replacement cost for the house is approximately $450k. I'll be lucky to get the tax value of $285k which actually went down last year. We built it for $250k in 1994 and put another $50k+ when I expanded the garage 3 years ago. Spent another $10k updating it to sell, granite countertops and taking out all the wallpaper.

This is not really a want ad. Thought some might be amused by the state of the local economy here in SE Texas. I've never made a dime on real estate in the 35 years I lived in Beaumont. Oh well!
