from my friend John's wife Priscilla (they own the PVHM)...
incredible cold tolerance for tree and fruit!
from Priscilla:
"When I took the pups out for their potty session this morning I noticed that a mystery citrus was on the ground! Apparently the high winds from last night shook it out of the tree...we thought we had picked the last one. I picked it up to extract the seeds and to our surprise it tasted SWEETER than any that we have tried so far! Just a slight bitter aftertaste...but still very pleasant to eat. We have a winner! This thing survived the ice and snow from last week. Amazing! Eating fresher picked citrus in Zone 7 three days before Christmas!"

the ripening fruit has seen lows in the teens (19f) in November and this month (17f)as well as over 30 hours below freezing after Thanksgiving. Amazing. |

I think we are all in deep you know what! It's supposed to get down to 3 degree F Monday night/ Tuesday morning. So far my Changsha and grapefruits and pesto seem OK with plastic coverings and space heaters/ heat lamps with recent dips to 11 degrees and not above freezing for two days. My cover over bloom sweet blew in half when seam tore but it appears to still be ok with good green leaf cover. Hopefully be ok after I fixed cover tonight. |

Good luck!
We are expecting the same here. Not too worried though. Had 0f in 2009, no problem. |

Official reading from the sensor in the yard was 0.4f. I like having the sensor right there. No guesswork. |

I got down to 0 degrees from 8:30 last night to 7:00 this morning before it rose to 1 degree. My wireless thermometer in my 2-layer 4 mil plastic-covered star grapefruit said it got down to 30 degrees in there this morning even with small space heater in it. And yes, I made sure the plastic cover was sealed up tight. This is the colest I've seen it at my house since I moved in in 2002. |
