You're tremendously better off using a floating row cover.

I have proven this to be resuable, cheap, and really works. I have used it during the arctic blast and it went down to 20 deg F.

Floating row cover and frost blanket are made from the same thing-- the frost balnket may be slightly thicker. I was able to get the frost blanket at HD last yr. It worked well for me.

I use a heavy frost protection fabric, which is purchased in 12' x 300' roll. I have found the heavier one much more satisfactory. It stays put better. lasts longer. and provides greater protection. I see Frost Proof carries it, and I am sure others do too. I am not sure who offers the heavier type in small quanities, but I bet a little digging would find some. A quick look indicates Frost Proof has the 1.5 and 3 oz. weights. I want to say the last one I brought was 6 oz, but I could be wrong about that - might be the 3 oz. Of course, the heavier one costs more.

For the farm, we have purchase row covers 24 ft wide and 500 feet long. When they get worn I use them as weed barriers in the greenhouse and various flower beds, by folding them two times. - Millet
