Shocked $85 for a gift box... that's quite a bit of money!
Last year they sold the beer in stores here in Belgium, also because the monks needed the money. Because of it's reputation it was sold out almost immediately. That way I got to taste it for the first time myself. It's a good beer, but I wouldn't especially rate it as the best abbey beer...

It´s not the price, but the quality ...

Let alone the purest fountain water filtered through more than 3000 high crystal mountains ...

Sanguello's post reminds me of the Coors beer ads..."Made from pure Rocky Mountain Spring water". Actually Coors water comes from ground wells right on Coor's Golden, Colorado property. The Coors Brewing Company is just a few miles from me. - Millet

Well, I was in that brewery and could see what all comes from.

Actually the black beer was invented 800 years ago by monks in my country and the blonde beer wasinvented 180 years ago in my city.

The blonde beer type is still called "Vienna Type" or LAGER.
Lager means storage, for the beer was stored at least 6 months in oak barrels before sold.

Millet, I went to the School of Mines. Still jealous that the Coors employees have beer in the lunch room...not so common here in the US.

When I was in Belgium I had a Trappist triple from Westmalle...loved it. Marc, hows that compare to Westvleteren?

Greg, so you probably had to paint the "M" on Lookout Mountain white during your freshman year. Currently, my nephew is attending the Colorado School of Mines. Actually, I took Physical Chemistry class at the School of Mines, but as a University Of Colorado student through a reciprocal program. Unfortunately, at least for the Coors' employees, the free beer at lunch is no longer offered to the employees. No free beer while the employees are working. PC has hit Coors. - Millet

Well I certainly like to drink a Westmalle triple myself every now and then, especially in the cafe near the abbey. But I don't think I'm able to compare it to a Westvleteren.

But the big difference is that Westmalle is available to everyone! Wink
