When a person purchases a new citrus tree, normally they put the majority of their thoughts, talents and energy into what is seen, the trunk, branches and foliage. Making sure that the tree keeps it healthy green color, the leaves don't curl, or drop, and the twigs don't begin to die back. The day to day concern for the root system is given little notice. However, after growing container citrus for some years, I have come to the conclusion that ones energy, talents and concern should be shown towards the portion of the tree that cannot be seen. For a container tree, how the roots go is how the entire tree will go. I think the the most successful method for growing a healthy container tree is giving ones daily time, energy and care to the root system. Did you know that the average life span of a container citrus tree is only two years? Any thoughts welcome. - Millet
