Most of the internet sources for trees won't ship to me here in Arizona. Even, some of the cool rare types the forum members have are not available to me. Yet, I live in a citrus state. Is there a ban to protect disease or something? I know fourwinds ships to larger shops out here, so what's the deal?

It's because were in a Citrus producing State that's the reason they wont ship to you.. Let me rephrase that some.. Many commercial growers do ship to here,, its just not worth their time to ship one or several plants to a individual. Not only that but it causes a problem with the sales agreement with the other wholesale buyers in the area. Not to mention the USDA certs that have to be inspected. Arizona is a little different than most other States, USDA goes to the location that is being delivered to for inspection.. they cant go to dozens of locations for single plants, they go to holding yards and inspect truck loads.
There's only 3 citrus growers left in AZ, any one of us would bud the trees you wanted.. it just takes time to grow out to a viable plant.
John down in Mesa was looking for the lime you wanted so he could bud it for you, I have budded several on Trifoliate at your order but being in the heat of summer the grow out will take time, Mark down in Mesa might have them but I doubt there on a dwarf root..
We grow what produces the best for the area we market to, and for whats in demand from customers in that area, as of this time of season most retail outlets and the wholesalers we grow for have there inventory grown and at there yards. Next seasons crop is in the process of growing

All of the "citrus states" (FL, CA, TX, LA, and AZ) ban import of citrus plants and plant parts that do not go through their inspection and phytocertification process --to prevent import of disease and pest (as you can see here in FL --that doesn't always work). Nurseries within the state undergo regular inspections and the inspection/certification process when they import new varieties.

Hey Turtleman, I figured you forgot about me so I just kept up my search. If you've already done some work for me, then I'll shut my trap and wait for an update on the lime. I'm just upset because I can't trade or swap with some of the forum members in other states that offer some unique items like Lazz and his variegated stuff.

It is the same for all of us from citrus states. Only the members from non-citrus states are free to import citrus plants and parts from other states (except FL and parts of LA).

However, on the positive side for many citrus states (except FL), residents can get budwood from state agricultural agencies. These budwoods are often certified disease free and offered to instate residents at minimal cost. FL did have such a program, but quit supplying budwood to homeowners at the end of 2006. I was lucky I got 17 varieties the fall before they stopped--13 took.

you should come to a scion exchange held by the Arizona Chapter of the California Rare Fruit growers every February. You would find scionwood of many rare citrus varieties our members grow and are attempting to grow in Arizona. You would be suprised what is growing in peoples back yards an on old farmsteads .
