I had one single orange growing on my small cara cara tree this summer. Today it fell of the tree. It was still quite small, about the size of a mandarin I guess. The color was still green but turning yellowish on the outside. The inside was already orange with a very slight hint of pink.

To my surprise it actually tasted very nice, especially considering I'm not living in a citrus zone at all! I definitely hope to get more oranges next year!

That's great! Do you have the tree in ground or potted in a greenhouse? I hope you get lots more next year.

The tree is currently in a pot in the light room, together with all other trees. The temperature in the light room is at a nearly constant 10°C (50°F) right now.

My entire first Cara Cara crop this year was destroyed by birds. They looked great. I love this variety.

That's sad! I hope you have better luck next year!

Today I found some cara cara oranges at the local market! Actually, my wife found them, I didn't notice them... Laughing I brought some home, but have yet to taste them. I'm really curious what they taste like!

I also brought some uglis home. Never tasted them before either...

I tasted a cara cara today. I was a little disappointed... it was pink inside as expected, but the taste was nothing special. It tasted like an ordinary navel orange. A bit too sweet for me actually, I prefer a bit more acidity in the taste.

The taste of my homegrown, immature cara cara was much better! Wink

We have already picked, and consumed, all of the Cara Cara fruit from our own tree, now the tree has already started its "Spring" floweing and growth flush. This tree "thinks" its Spring as it is grown in the ground inside my warm greenhouse. Anyway, yesterday I purchased a bag of California Cara Cara from the super market, and have already ate two of them - very good tasting. -Millet (729-)
