My name is Ognjen and I come from a little country called Bosnia.
I'm interested in citrus trees since 2009 when I decided to put orange seeds into flowerpot. There were only two of them, and suprisingly both of them sprouted. I guess that was a begginers luck Smile

Here they are Smile

Eventually, their lifes came to end, and I was really dissapointed.

Next thing I tried was lemons, but they died too.

Then I tried with grapefruit.
Only one seed sprouted, and finaly something good happened. Grapefruit developed really fast, had many leaves. Then one morning when I woke up, I saw a white ball on top of the grapefruit. It was a flower Very Happy My grapefruit was blooming Very Happy
I guess that was too much for him, because he lost almost every leaf. Then flower dropped off, and it growed really slow next period. I still have it today, but it's in water. Maybe it will make another root.

I tried with mandarins but they also died.

Then one day I bought kumquats and tried with that. They are still alive today, developing slow, but still developing Smile

Then again I tried with lemons, and now I have one-year lemon that is developing really good Smile

And now I'm experimenting with grapefruits again Smile

I hope I will find a good place here that is dedicated to growing citrus trees from seeds, and yeah, sorry for the long post Smile

Welcome to the forum. Yes it is possible to grow a citrus from seed. This is one of my Ruby red grapefruit that I grew from seed. For something that fruits quickly from seed I would recommend Procimquat (1 year from seed) or Key lime (2 years from seed)

This is my one-year old lemon:

I hope it will develop into a real tree Smile

And can you tell me more about polyembrionic seeds? Because I believe that's the case with my grapefruit:

Winamp, welcome!
Where are you exactly ? I'm in Sisak.
Knowing location of a member is important, specially when citrus is in the question.

Welcome to the forum! I'm starting to notice that in eastern Europe citrus are very popular. Shocked

Laaz: that tree developped to that size in about 7 years? That one really boomed in size if I'm not mistaken?
Btw: reading that some citrus can flower after 1 or 2 years gives me a lot of hope for the future. Very Happy

To put it in perspective, this is the same tree @ 3 years old behind Scott. You see the Ponkan to the right of it is now in it's shadow.

What happened to the Washingtonia. It should be taller than the Grapefruit?

There were 3 Washingtonias there, I moved two. There is still one behind the grapefruit, about the same height.

Eventually the Washingtonia will outpace the grapefruit unless it is too shaded.
