I noticed new growth on my kumquat that is right at the graft line. The leaves look like the other kumquat leaves. I heard that most nurseries graft citrus to trifoliate or sour orange. The leaves are certainly not trifoliate, but might be sour orange.

I'd like to keep this branch if it is kumquat. Is it likely it can be identified by appearance as true or sucker? If not I'll just take it off. I don't really feel like waiting to see what kind of fruit it produces.

Brian, the new eaves are neither trifoliate nor sour orange leaves. Sour orange leaves have a large winged petiole. Kumquat leaves are as seen, long and pointed. - Millet

I'll assume it is not a sucker then and let it live. Thank you.

I have a Key lime that has done the same thing - right at the graft. So far they appear to be lime so I'm going to leave them a bit longer as I would like the tree to bush out a bit further down, but they're right on the graft and I honestly can't tell if they're above or below it.
