Hurrah! i had fruits on my new meiwa kumquat last year, but they werent sweet and the insides were horribly pithy.

I tried the most ripe one yesterday, and it was quite good. It was so hot this year in Tennessee, and theyve survived moving back to Ohio- this first ones seeds werent developed tho....

its been in CHC for a year and ive been using STEM sometimes (thanks Millet!)

Patience is a virtue, and it gets you good fruits! Now maybe this spring to graft a new baby onto one of my FD rootstocks and gift it!

Congrats on your Miewas-- Ours are much sweeter this year as well, but I did not get as good a fruit set as I did last year. I think I let it get too dry during the fruit filling period and it dropped a lot of fruit, it did have a second bloom and set a late drop that is still green--those may not be as taste as good as this first crop.

Do you find that the kumquat in general grow slow? My Meiwa looks healthy, produces good fruit but has grown very little since I planted it two years ago.

indeed!

It did shoot out a bud just above the graft, so its a standard with one sticker-outer (the better for me to learn to graft with!)

very little branching this year.

My Miewa is over 6 ft tall, but I don't remember when I planted it--though it was well before I planted my lemon which is over 10 ft and only 4 yr old.
