Thats right. you have to pay tax, one way or the other. Norway is a small country with high taxes. But we dont have to pay for health care, or we pay a small fee to see a doctor. Hospital is free. About 70% of the gasprices is tax.

Philip, you must work closer to home than most people in California. At $60/month, that's about $5 per commute that you are saving (my estimate), so just a little over a gallon.

I drive a little over 30 miles per trip (60+ per day). Rounding gas off to $5 per gallon, getting roughly 30 mpg in my car, and the fact that I drive every other week; it boils down to 6 days a month that I don't drive. $60 isn't going to allow me to retire early, but the person I carpool with lives close enough that it isn't too inconvienant for either of us to carpool. The largest problem is our schedules. She's hourly and I'm salary so I have a habit of working later and she leaves right at closing time. Last week I had a meeting run late so she had to wait around for me.

Thanks. Right now with morning sickness, I'm a little more excited about the new addition than my wife is. Smile

Kjell, you pay every single day, every single kilometer, and every time you drive, for your medical care. You just pay through the gas pump instead of directly to the doctor. I would much rather pay only when I am sick, and then directly to the doctor, or through private medical insurance. Whenever a government, or external agency is involved, productivity goes down, the waiting line for surgery get longer. Many Canadians are forced to come to the USA for care, especially for life saving emergency surgeries. - Millet

whoooohoooo, paid $3.989 today! Isn't it crazy how one can celebrate over a price like that? Well, it's the lowest I've paid since mid-May, but it really seemed much longer that that.

Joe had posted an article a while back about $5 gas by July. Thankfully, that never came to pass! Smile
