I've heard that Eureka Lemon is not compatible with trifoliate rootstocks. Is this true as well for Bearss Lime? If so, what is recommended.
I have T-budded Bearss Lime to c-35 trifoliate. It grew well for a year. It is living 3 years later, but not thriving. No fruit.
I have tried grafting Bearss Lime to Eureka lemon seedlings, but none have even sprouted.
I have purchased a Bearss Lime from 4Winds Nursery in Fremont, CA, and it has grown well and produces a good crop, but I don't know what rootstock it is on (other than "dwarfing").
I have grafted sweet orange to a lemon rootstock obtained from a Kaffir lime plant I purchased, and it's growing well, also Eureka lemon onto lemon rootstock, so I have had some success with grafting and budding citrus, though it is quite challenging compared to Rosacea species. Good Report!

AS far as trifoliate goes, I bark-grafted a trifoliate unto a lisbon, the trifoliate is growing like crazy. I am planning to graft the Australian Finger lime unto the trifoliate which died out when grafted directly unto a lisbon.

Perhaps you can graft a lisbon unto trifoliate then graft Eureka unto the Lisbon.

I just made my first purchase from 4 Winds last week, and emailed them requesting the types of rootstocks. One of them was a Bearss. Here is what they sent me:

Quote:
Hi Barbara
Murcott, Bearrs, Rangpur are on Trifoliate C-35.
Eureka is on Cuban Shaddock.
thanks
Kerry

They are due to arrive tomorrow, I am very excited! This is no guarantee that yours is on the same rootstock, however, I am sure they probably stick with what works for them. Hope this helps, Barbara

I have spent the last 2 days researching cuban shaddock, and the most information on the web is right here in this forum, supplied by Millet. Other than that, I have learned that it is in many studies which researched salt uptake into the scion, and is considered one of the better rootstocks to minimize salt damage in the scion. Barbara

My Bearss lime is from Monrovia and the label specified it was grafted to flying dragon.
