I did a search on this, but I didn't find anything...
Occasionally I move a plant out of CHC and into a bed. Also I will admit to having lost a citrus tree (ok, maybe two). It would seem to me that the CHC could be rinsed and used in a fresh batch. But I don't know that rinsing would remove all of the peat, Osmocote, or other elements of the mix.
My question is, do you recycle the CHC? How do you do this?

Stress, I've reused CHC many times. All I do is rinse/soak the used CHC medium in clean clear water over night, than in a solution of Calcium Nitrate/Magnesium Nitrate (for about one hour), and use it again. I also have on occation just used it without doing anything, however, I prefer to do what I first mentioned. - Millet |

If there was a sick plant in the CHCs, would "solarizing" it be enough?
Getting it moist and placing clear plastic over it and placing it in full sun for a few days? |

Garnet, I don't know the answer to your question. If the previous tree that was planted in the CHC was sick with a disease such as a virus or other, I think I would just toss the CHC and start over. - Millet |

ive had a few seedlings get what i believe to be damping off. they just get kinda limp, then they shrivel, then they die.
Either way, no biggie as ive used small pots for my seedlings
Thanks for your thoughts Millet! |

To avoid damping off of citrus seedling only water in the morning so that the sun's rays quickly dries the very top of the medium. Of course the pot has to be in direct sun light. - Millet |

or you can add a thin layer of fine sand, at least 1/4" thick on the top of the potting media. |

And/or to keep from damping off...water from the bottom going up thru soil instead of from the top. _________________ Patty
