Valley's Citrus Business is Booming
The Valley's citrus business is booming. Especially now during the Holidays. At Harlingen's Crockett Farms, who have been in business for almost 50 years, they say it's been very busy.
The Valley has over 28,000 acres of citrus trees. More than 10 million cartons of citrus fruits are shipped out of South Texas annually. Even to far off places like Singapore and Germany.
The assembly line, at Crockett Farms, is a full service fruit operation. Fresh ornages and ruby red grapefruits are picked off trees and cleaned. Then these juicy fruits are boxed up, labeled, and ready to become treats in a Holiday gift basket.
Owner, Terri Crockett says they get close to 1,000 orders a day. She hopes all the hard work they've been putting in, will make the Holidays, tastier for those receiving baskets.
