Hey folks,

I've looked at some 'Wonderful' pomegranate trees at the big box stores, and many of them seem to have multiple trunks (shrub-like) vs a strong central trunk (more tree-like). Any thoughts on which would be better or does it matter?

Thx,
BC

I have one Wonderful that grows like a bush and two more younger pomes that I keep single-trunk. I do not think there is any difference rather than appearance. Looks like, pomegranates in general prefer growing as a bush though.

Pomegranates naturally grow as a bush. They may start out as single trunked, but will eventually send up suckers and multiple branches. You can try to train them to a single trunk, but it's a lot of work to keep them to a single trunk. So, bush form is pretty much the standard for poms.

The old trunks seem to die out and are replaced by many new ones. They are really multi trucked bushes. IMHO
