I just tasted my first ripe citrus of the year from my Daisy Mandarin and while I bad mouthed it for the splitting--I have to say it is making up for it in taste this yr. This is the third yr that the tree has had fruit, the first yr I ranked it second in taste of all my citrus, with Ponkan #1. Last yr the taste was not that great--near the bottom and most of the fruit went for juice. But, this yr the Ponkan is going to have to be great to take the top spot. I did loose over half of my crop of Daisy's to splitting due to the dry--wet--dry--wet conditions we had in late summer, but the splitting even go half of my Murcotts and a few of my Ponkans. Ponkan and satsuma crops are looking good, but not quite ready.

Skeeter,

I'll bring you some of my Sunburst to see what you think. Last I tasted they were not bad not great. They have almost 100% color now. Should they be ready now?

Will they benefit from extra hang time

Remember these are were planted April 9 2011 so hopefully this will be the worst year for production and quality.

I think most do benifit from additional hang time. I would try a few thru the season to find the peak so you will know in the future. I pick my lemons from late August to as late as early June the next season. The flavor does improve up to Dec, but stays after that.

Owari usually gets sweeter into late Dec/early Jan when they start getting dry and pithy. My Ponkan is a little tart now, but will get good in early Dec and great in early Jan.
