Okay. So. I have to share this story with my citrus friends, as only you can appreciate how excited (and horrified) I was today. I can't actually stop laughing at myself for this, so have to share it with those of you (like Laaz), who can grow a gazillion citrus seedlings in some random pot by tossing in a handful of sees, cover with average dirt, occasional water, and intermittent neglect. I, on the other hand, seem perfectly adept at killing any and all citrus seeds folks give me so badly, that at this point, I am not allowing myself to ask for any more seeds, lol! I still don't get that, but I digress.

Okay, so here's the story: Today, at my lunch break, I decide I'm going to pot up a little sour cherry I got in the mail today, so I can get it a wee bit bigger before it goes in the ground. I walk outside to my patio table, and decide, "what the heck, I'll just use this 1 gal pot I have that I planted some Brown Select Satsuma seeds that one of our very kind list member sent me about 4 months ago, maybe longer. No seedlings of course, as I kill everything. Never saw anything come up. So. I water it a little, then start jamming in my trowel to work the soil loose. What do you think I manage to hack apart, do you ask? That's right - a bunch of sprouting Brown's Select Satsuma seedlings. That's right. They're sprouting. AFTER FOUR OR MORE MONTHS OF DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Okay. Now I'm absolutely horrified. I carefully dump out all the top dirt as gently as I can. I rescue 4 seedlings. One has actually completely sprouted with beginning leaves under the soil. What the heck!?! So, the sour cherry found another pot to call home for a bit, and I'm considering hacking up another pot of seeds that haven't sprouted. Apparently, this is my new tactic to get seeds to grow: Leave them in a pot for 4 months, taking excellent care of them, the scare the bejesus out of them by assaulting them with a trowel. I've got it, now. Rolling Eyes

Laughing Yeah citrus can stay dormant for quite a while. Once they get the correct temp in the soil, they will begin to sprout all at once.

Yea, kinda figured that out Laughing I need to think before I act. I had about 15 minutes to get this little cherry potted, and I should have realized that I might have wanted to check out my little seedlings a little closer. Amazing how hardy citrus seeds can be.

Cherry is not true from seed, you do know that, right?

Yes Smile This is a "Crimson Passion" sour cherry young tree from Honeyberry USA. I have about 70 different stone fruits and poms here, as well as my citrus collection. And I'm a Master Gardener (just don't tell the citrus seedlings). Embarassed
