Is there any way you can preserve the citrus budwood before you use it, I know most budwood can be put in the fridge but won't that kill the citrus.

You want to keep it cool, not frozen. You can put a moist paper towel in a ziplock bag with the budwood. Just make sure it doesn't freeze. Budwood can be kept like this for months.
