Well I love my orange juice, but I was wondering what other kinds of citrus juice do you all like? Also for juicing with an electric juicer should you try to take out the seeds of seedy citrus like tangelos or not?

I've only tried oranges so far, but just bought a Hamilton Beach #932 juicer after doing a fair amount of research. I originally was searching mostly for something to juice some pomegranates I had and then it got put to use with some freeze-damaged navels. I like it pretty well and think it's better than an electric version since it doesn't tear away at the membranes and rind as much. The only drawback I see is that it's only large enough to accomodate a very large orange, so it would be unable to handle a medium-sized or larger grapefruit.

Here's the place I bought it for, costing $118.72 plus shipping.

Tangerine juice beats orange juice hands down in my book.

there's a citrus grove in Southern California that is endangered of being going extinct by losing out to developers. It is called the Inland Empire of California near Riverside. They grow the best oranges in the world, and I bet their tangerines would even be better. The rinds are the thinnest you ever saw.

But the citrus industry is at the mercy of global markets, like WalMart, which buys oranges with the cheapest price, as long as it is colored orange and looks like orange, they will buy the cheapest ones, from Australia, Brazil, South Africa and elsewhere cheaper, AND CARE NOTHING about the taste.

The distinctiveness of oranges from the Inland Empire has been lost and branded over with global sellers, making it hard for the Inland Empire citrus growers to compete in the global market, meanwhile, developers are enticing them with hefty sums of retirement money, and the best citrus groves in the world are rapidly disappearing...

There is some glimmer of hope, by catering to the niche markets, very few citrus growers, fanatics just like us are holding on and selling and branding it as their unique oranges. Will have to buy me a box from them someday, even if costs an arm and a leg.

This was an article featured in Sunset Magazine recently, and I hope I remember some of the points correctly.

I was just remembering this thread. At the citrus day held in in Pleasant Hill, CA a couple of weeks ago, retired citrus expert Toots Bier and her husband said they liked juice from Ortanique tangor the best.
