JoeReal...you mentioned using Ammonium Sulfate every time I water, and that it can be used safely. Where might I find the product? My local nursery, or would I be able to find it at any garden center?

I have two types right now. Fish Emulsion, which I planned on using only as foliar feeding, having been explained to me not to overlook foliar feeding the plants as well as the soil.

I also have something recommended to me called Ferti-Lome Fruit, Citrus and Pecan Tree Food. I'm not sure if its just sprinkled on top of the soil, of it I dissolve it in water first (the large package really isn't clear on this...I'm going to test it first by seeing how a a teaspoon of it dissolves in water, but it says for citrus...."Apply 1 lb. of fertilizer per inch of trunk diameter per feeding in early spring, summer and fall at 90 day intervals. Keep fertilizer away from tree trunks." It has a 19-10-5 ratio. The Fish Emulsion is 5-1-1.

The reason I'm confused about how to apply Ferti-Lome is because has that caveat...."Keep away from tree trunks". Seems like it would have clearly stated "dissolve (amount) in water, per inch of tree trunk", etc. But instead is states "lb. of fertilizer per inch of trunk diameter".....

Anybody use Ferti-Lome? Know where to get Ammonium Sulfate? Have experience with Fish Emulsion (guaranteed not to burn, says bottle).

I think my trees (One Sambo, one Eureka, and two Meyer) are doing well. Although one of the Meyers is light green in its foliage, while it's sister has dark green foliage. I don't know if this is due to the fact that the lighter may be just newer growth and hasn't had a chance to deepen in color, or if it needs something. The lighter leaves look mature and are fanned out. I would expect the color to be the same. Side-by-side there is a marked difference, although both are healthy-looking.

I have no idea where you live, what country or state. But over here, we can buy ammonium sulfate in the lawn fertilizer section of most stores that has a garden section. these are the cheapest fertilizer to be had.

About your ferti-lome, when the rates are given like that, it would most likely imply inground rate application and not potted. If you dissolve this in water, at a safe rate, et us say 1 tbsp per gallon H2O, then you can water it even nearby trunk. Just avoid pouring it undissolved next to the trunk. you know conversions from tbsp to lbs, so you continue every time you water until you hit total application rate of lbs per inch tree trunk at end of 90 days.

Yes, you can continue applying Fish Emulsion through Foliar application.

Your help has been greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. I'm in North Carolina, BTW.
