Anyone with direct experience with these two kumquats - Meiwa or Fukushu? I have both available locally, and want the best variety for an in ground planting. Research so far indicates the Meiwa will be sweeter, but the Fukushu may be a more vigorous tree?

I'm in Tucson, AZ zone 9A, windy and hot, the tree will get some shade for the last hour or two of daylight. In addition, I will provide shade cloth on the west and south sides for the first year or so.

TIA,
Eric

Meiwa has smaller fruit with less juice which tends to make it sweeter. Changshou has larger fruit. I like Chanshou for making marmalade because the fruit is larger. My in ground tree is Changshou.

Meiwas are very sweet to eat off the tree. The ones that grew in my yard this year were so sweet that they have made it to the top 5 all time favorite fruit list in my home! Strongly recommend Meiwa.

Is Changshou/Fukushu good for eating fresh? I've tasted Meiwa and Nagami, but never Fukushu. I'm considering purchasing one to keep in a container, but I'd like to have some idea about how they taste before I buy.

My Miewas were excellent last yr--the best ever. Everybody that got some was impressed--they were sweet and moist (sometimes they can be pretty dry).

I was given a small Meiwa tree as a gift last year. It held one fruit until February, when the fruit split and I finally decided to eat it. It was, by far, the best Kumquat I have ever eaten.
