I have just purchased a 3.6 gallon dwarf bearss lime tree from Clifton's Nursery grown by Monrovia growers. It arrived in very good condition shipped in it's own soil. It has a very good root system...seems to me that the plant was originally grown in an air pot as that is what the root system would suggest. I re-potted the tree in a 5 gallon size air pot using it's original soil mixed with potting soil. I did not disturb the roots very much at all. I simply agitated the outer perimeter of soil/roots before re-potting the tree. The leaves of the tree varied from good dark green leaves to lighter green leaves and the tree had numerous fruit growths already. I have had the tree for three days and today, I noticed a few leaves have dropped and several others are turning yellow....any ideas on what I need to do to keep the leaves from turning yellow? Thanks, Tim.

After repotting, did you have it in the sun or shade?

What is your soil mix there?

It has been in shade first day, partial sun second day and has been in the greenhouse getting full to partial sun for about two days now. I basically used the soil it was shipped in...it had really good root growth as one would achieve in an air pot...I mixed in ultimate potting soil from Wal-Mart to the sides and bottom of the air pot that the tree is in now. The original soil and roots were very much intermixed and when I lifted the tree out of it's original container, very little soil fell off and the root structure was everywhere with no root circling at all! I gently exposed the outer area and bottom area of the roots and re-potted as stated above.

I am thinking that this may be a magnesium deficiency....any thoughts? Also, noticed tonight on two of the leaves that had dropped off that the leaves had a clear to white substance on the leaves that looked like a sealant left by an unknown insect? It was almost in a trail like fashion. I tried cleaning the leaves with alcohol and it would not take off the sealant or whatever it may be. This is somewhat noticeable in the picture of the tree on a leaf in the upper left branch of the tree.

Those trails in the pic are citrus leaf miners, here in Texas I just let them be because it is mainly cosmetic but use the search button on top and search citrus leaf minors and you will find ways to get rid of them. Me personally let them be.

Tim, your tree does not have a magnesium deficiency. At this point I would not do anything, other than your regular fertilizing schedule. Your certainly building up a good collection of citrus. Congratulations. - Millet (995-)
