Hello,

Please, somebody could explain me what's going on with my citrus trees? This is not the first time when I see these 'tears' but I didn't pay attention to it but now I'm curious what's happening.
I have tasted these 'tears' and are sweet. Laughing

Thank you!

isn't it a sort of honeydew produced by scale?

No, it's not from scale. I never saw honeydew produced by scale on flowers, usually it's on the back of leaves or twigs. Smile

it happens to be spread almost everywhere, once the tree gets infested...
other insects e.g. ants usually spread the honeydew which makes the infestation take over the tree.

i don't know what else could be causing it... Rolling Eyes

I have seen this too in some of my plants when growth just started this spring. It looks just like sap oozing out. Maybe it's just because of high sap pressure. I'm pretty sure my plants are currently not infested by aphids or anything...

What about spider mites ? I see some dots on leaves, could be dust - or something live.
BTW, if you see some faster moving 'dots' - leave them, those are predators.

Also, I think I've read somewhere that 'sweet tears' like those can be result of root's reaction to something in potting media (can not recall details).

The trees are not infected with any pests, this was the first thing checked before to post the question here. Instead I found a very good explanation (thanks MarcV) which seems to be logic in my situation. We have more then one week sunny days here but with cold nights and the temperature in the greenhouse hit sometimes the 30C degrees (86F) during the day but over night goes down to 5C degrees (41F).
So, I believe this is the root cause of my problem: oozing tree sap can also be heat related. In early spring, while many trees are still dormant, the fluctuation of temperatures may affect the flow of tree sap. For instance, warmer weather produces pressure within the tree. This pressure can sometimes cause the tree sap to flow from the tree through openings produced from cracks or injury, in my case few flower buds.

Thanks for all comments, much appreciated. hate-okrk01_beviamocisu

I agree, it's nothing to worry about. I have seen it on my trees, most often in the spring when the sap really starts to flow. Probably just a excess of say finding it's way out.
