Long distance addicit goes to Greg. He flew in from British Columbia Canada. (Notice the adult beverage he is enjoying, I was behaving and didn't drink anything... NOT ! ) He went home with a large basket of fruit.
Stan wheeling and dealing.
Stans lecture, lighting was poor inside.
Some various shots...

Wanted to go. Badly.
Three birthday parties and a baby shower and I was denied.
Hope you all had a great time.
The trophy on the table, what was that for? Who won most unusual fruit?
My best to all you citriholics out there. Happy Turkey Day!

Awesome pics Todd !!! I know Greg (and everyone) had a great time. I wished I could have made it, only cause I'm farther away by some 40 miles than Greg
Cheers, Barrie. |

Hey I really enjoyed myself. I was impressed with all the people attending the expo and the quality of the fruit I saw and tasted. I experienced souther hospitality everywhere I went. My suitcase was right on maximum weight for the trip home. The Canadian customs guy grilled me on the fruit and I was sent to the Canadian food inspection desk at the airport - (somewhat nervously) Anyway, all was good and I have been eating some really delicious Southeast citrus. There was a white grapefruit in the basket I won for traveling the furthest... A white grapefruit which is the best white grapefruit I have EVER tasted Would someone help me ID it? It is about 3.5" wide and slightly oblate shaped. the rind is greenish yellow.... Whoever brought the ponderosa lemons to the competition - a big thanks! my two daughters have taken it to school for show and tell - and it has gained lots of attention with the students and staff at the school!

The expo was great. It was my first trip to SC and I enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing all of the fruit. I noticed one unusual hybrid on the judging table- ichang lemon x key lime. Does anyone know about this hybrid? I had never heard of it before and thought it had an agreeable taste. |

Sound like a potential for a new Northwest citrus expo could emerge in years to come.
Hey ... ya gotta start somewhere!
Cheers, Barrie. |

Gregg, The grapefruit sounds like it may have been one I brought. It was provided by a friend in Beaufort who has an seedling tree we believe to be Duncan. He was unable to attend this year, but sent fruit for the baskets we made up. You description fits the fruit. If it was also somewhat seedy that is most likely where it came from.

Thanks Ned, it was nice to meet you at the Expo - I have some good photos to post ...you are probably right - would that be a Croxton grapefruit? If so, I remember seeing a Photo of Stan McKenzie trying to pull it out of the ground. It was much less acidic than the white Florida grape fruit we get in the stores here. Yes there were quite a few seeds but worth it.
Thanks,
