Hello everyone, I need some advise. I'm ready to start planting some trees at my house, I won't be living down there full-time for atleast another 2 years. My parents live 320 ft away, (I know, this is a double edge sword). I've done some research and have a tree wish list, I visited my local extension service dept. and when I expressed I wanted Dwarf trees the master gardener stated this was a bad idea, since they are not proven and are more subseptable to diesase... Is this true? I have a 80 X125ft lot with a small house on the front 1/3. I have nothing but weeds AKA urban jungle, after hacking away for 3 days i found my property line and a citrus tree with a tag on it stating do not remove by order of the fla dept of ag. and a phone number which i called... the tree was involved in some type of research at one timw for buggs oer something but that program is over.. I have good drainage and my leach field ins in the front of the house. I wanted a line of trees runing down both sides of the property. I expected to space them 12 feet apart, and use drip lines 18" away from the trunk. So can I have dwarf trees? and which trees are your ( you guys) favorites? any and all advise is greatly appreciated from everyone.... oh! one more thing where do I get GA3 from? thanks jv Very Happy

The ususal dwarfs are on flying dragon rootstock. I think your soil is probably too high a pH for flying dragon trifoliate rootstock. Your soil is probably sand from a coral reef as you are less than a mile from the gulf?

Thanks Tex. I guess my next step would be to have my soil tested... i'm up the Myakka river and most of the lots are heavily bushed and some tall scrub oaks. I just wanted alot of variety is a small area..
thanks for the info

With scrub oaks, there's a good possibility that your sandy soil is highly acidic. But yes, a test is in order.
