My mom gave me this chair 8 yrs ago.. This weekend I got it home!!! Hard to bring it home 8 yrs ago (wouldn't fit in the Mazda 626 we had at the time).. My parents moved here 2 yrs ago and brought it with them.. But I did not have the room for it.. Still don't have the room for it.. But I decided I'm not going to MAKE room for it with it in storage at my mom's.. SO it sits in my room right infront of the closet door forcing a furniture change to remove the inconvenience..

I LOVE this chair!!! It scream TROPICAL!!! When I get it moved and surrounded with banana citrus etc.. it will look so calming and relaxing..

Ok.. Please don't laugh at my poor date plant... I have neglected and abused it.. I FEEL BAD about it!!!! Embarassed I really need to find good info on palm care.. I have had the plant for 6 yrs now.. this yr has been very bad on it..

Any way.. here is a pic of the chair..

I need to wash it and am planning on poly staining it.. It is very sturdy.. I don't know how old it is.. my mom picked it up at a yard sale in Farmington, NM..

One day I will have a solarium and this will look so AWESOME in there!!!

Wonderful chair! Would look awesome if you cleaned, stained and coat it.

My wife's been looking for a wicker chair like that! That's so cool!

Thanks Joe!!
Little did I know 9 yrs ago that I would have the tropical plants to go with this chair.. Very Happy
It is possible that I had my senior pictures taken in this chair.. there was a chair exactly like this that my senior pics were taken in.. and my mom purchased this chair a yr after the place closed.. I can't imagine there being more than one chair like this in Farmington.. but then who knows.. I have tried to look for this chair online to have matching his and hers thrones.. but could not find one.. good luck to your Mrs.!!! I saw a few pics of chairs (not for sale though) same as this but both chairs were painted!! (YUCK!!) I feel lucky I got one that is in such beautiful condition..

If I find a place to get them I will let you know...

that chair would last about 30 mins in our house.

weve got some darn rattan eating cats!

I agree with the stain or clearcoat, that would look great.

Shocked
OMG thanks for mentioning that!!! HMMMM maybe it will have to stay in my bed room.. or the cat can go??? I'm allergic to hubbies cat so she is not allowed in MY bedroom (hubby says he's just lucky enough I let him sleep there too Wink ) Doubt she would pass up a chance to sharpen her claws on it.. If nothing else but just to spite me..

Eventually I want to build a solarium or sun room to my house and the chair could go in there another place hubbies cat will be banned from as she loves messing with my plants.. That is a couple yrs down the road yet though.. Crying or Very sad

Gina, glad you posted that pic. I have a chair similar, except it has a longer seat to put feet up on- like a chaise lounge (?). No room in sunroom for it right now, but when I'm done refinishing floors & get furntiure out of ther, I'll move it back in before winter. I was wondering about a good finish to put on. Wicker (not rattan) - I hear, doesn't really need one. I talked to guy who makes & sells wicker & he says just keep it moist & in humidity so it doesn't crack when you sit on it. Someone gave it to me for getting it out of storage - many yrs ago, (was there for prolly over 10 yrs) & other guy said don't even sit on it till you soak it down.
I don't know now if I should put a finish on it or leave it natural. I'll get a pic of it on here soon. It's on my deck with seat cushion in shed.
Oh yeah, it originally came from Fl. We could have a his & hers LOL... mine would be the "hers" cuz we need to put our feet up more. Laughing

http://www.naturalhandyman.com/iip/infxtra/infwicker.shtm

My personal fav.. I browsed the site.. lots of good info there..
http://www.wickerwoman.com/wickerfurniturecare.html

Another fav I bookmarked....
http://www.refinishfurniture.com/wicker_menu.htm

Hope these links help.. Be sure and get pics when you get your tropical Paradise set up in your sun room!!!

OK, Finally My chair. It has gone thru alot of out doors. I didn't get the edge on details of it, but it still looks beautifull to me. Yours looks so much better as it has a finish onit.
Now that I remember, mine was left out all of last winter but covered w/ plastic. Yours looks much better than mine,
Anuy more advice on how to take care of these is appreciated.

Don't forget, I have a cushioned pad for this I sat on it once this past yr!

Moved the chair into sunroom today. How's this for a "tropical corner"? LOL

I have a better pic, but it came out toooo dark for some reason. On the other side of those windows is where the chair was...facing east. Notice how ugly it is outside? Been like this since beginning of Oct...even had flurries 2 days ago! We are s'posed to get up in 60's Wed so I can finish yard work.
Sorry you can't see all or more details of chair, but you can see that it's been weathered/greyed. Gina, yours looks bran new & mine would too if I didn't leave it out all last winter (covered in plastic). I don't think staining yours is a good idea - I like the 'natural' look of it. I don't know what to do with mine - if anything. Maybe mine could use some staining to cover up the greying/weathered look. Any suggestions?
I was too lazy to get cushion out of shed to put on it. I used same material as curtains, that I got for free - out of storage when I got the chair. Kinda ugly, but it was free material - & it has green leaves & pink flowers!
There are 9 palm trees on the 2 sills there. All other sills in rm. are loaded with plants also - mostly cuttings & seedlings.
Facing south is many more plants that need the sun (mostly citrus & fruits)...those pics came out too dark too.

Patty,
Have you thought of trying Murphy's oil soap?? I read on a few web sites to use it when major cleaning is needed.. Then use a polystain if the color is still gray.. I was thinking just a good cleaning for mine and maybe a poly coat for protection.. If I used a poly stain I would use something close to what color it is already.. But I think I'd rather stick with the current look.. just be a bit more kid proof errr.. stain proof.. LOL
Your room is wonderful!! you need some Tiki torches in the corner!! LOL.. hmm wonder if you could make some tiki torches into lights?? use small bulbs like night light size.. ambient night lights.. Wink

Is that your avocado by the door?? and the other one over by the corner?? how are the grafts doing??

Thanks Joan, it doesn't feel tropical when the temps are in 50's in there!
Gina, the plant by door is the biggest (over 5') of 3 Cherimoya. I would just use a CLEAR poly on your chair to protect it & not change color. I will try Murphy's next spring.
Hey Laaz, those big palms are on treated wood with wheels! All I have to do is push them out the door - 3 inches down to deck LOL. No lifting there. That pot is 24 " wide & almost as deap. IC b'nanna is in same size.
OK, I'll go take more pics. There are so many more...I'll show the Avo. graft.

There is definately something wrong the flash on my cam...goes off too soon. Almost all pics are too dark again.
Here's the Avo trees in 14 inch H pots. the Cherimoya pot is 2'H x 11"W.

This is Little Cado graft to Haas. I pinched the top back around July, so I have another branch to graft another to! Both grafts are nice & green & looks like this is trying to bud out.

Stupid piece of junk camera!
