I was rumaging through the selection and noticed on Cara Cara tree with several variegated leaves. The variegation was not heavy but these are young trees. I almost bought it, but since I already have one of these Cara Cara's would this tree be a good buy if I'm hoping to get a pure variegated tree at some point. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this. Since, this tree shows variegation already, are the odds good that this tree will grow a pure variegated sport at some point that could then be budded? |

How rare is this Laaz? And what are my odds of this tree really producing some variegated fruit, or pure variegated sports? |

Chances are very good. Cara cara commonly produces variegated sports. Excellent quality fruit as well. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Thanks, that means I can wait until a larger batch come in to choose from. I was going to grab it if my odds were low of seeing another. |

OK here ya go. This is one of my variegated Cara cara navels. It is in a container so I left a fruit on. Both of the variegated Cara car's I have in the ground I removed all of the flower buds to get vegetative growth.
BTW, if you want a variegated tree you will need to bud one of the variegated buds to a good rootstock. Otherwise you will only have a variegated branch... Also variegated plants do not like direct sun and the white / yellow will burn if left in direct sun so you want to place it in partial shade.

Just look for one with a nice variegated branch. I have a citrumello that produced a nice variegated branch. I just took the branch and cleft grafted it to citrumello rootstock this past weekend. Hopefully it takes... _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...
