Hi,
I have planted a lemon seed, apple seeds, mango seed and a avocado seed.

lemon and apple seeds are in a pot with plastic wrap over top (indoors).

Mango seed is wrapped in a wet paper towel in a baggy

avocado seed is in a pot outside.

How can I care for the plants?

Im in zone 7 what will I have to grow indoors and what can I put out doors?

As long as they were planted very fresh, they should all sprout easily except the apple seeds. Apple seeds usually need a "stratification" period -- a time of cold wet storage, to simulate a winter. We usually do that by putting them, damp, in the fridge for about 90-100 days. After that they sprout easily. They could be in a pot of damp soil, in a ziploc bag, or wrapped in damp paper towels, in a ziploc, etc.

Ultimately, you'll have to move all but the apples indoors in winter -- none of those species will take significant frost. There are some types of avocado that can take into the upper teens (F), but if this is a pit from a grocery store seed, plan on mid- to upper 20s as the minimum. Mango and lemon will not stand much below freezing.

Apple seeds do not come true, and will not produce the same apple that the seed was taken from. Apple are rarely, if ever, started from seed, as it has been estimated the chance of a seedling ever producing a quality tasting apple from seed is about 1 in 100,000. - Millet

What Millet said is also true for all avocados, as well as most mangos. The yellowish-green "S"-shaped mangos do come true-to-type, but the more colorful, beef-heart-shaped ones do not.

hi!

just curious as to how the seedlings are coming along. i planted four apple and four lemon seeds a month ago, and i still havent seen anything. i didnt bother with the cold period for the apples, would have liked to but they were half open anyway and thought what the heck lol the lemon seeds i kept in water overnight.

thinking none of them would be a success, i just burrowed a little into the potting mix, and what do i find...a big thick root going down from the lemon seeds! a partial success - i think they have all been kept far too dry, i should have watched them as closely as i watch my established trees!

just curious, how long am i meant to wait for them to sprout to the surface? the apples i dont have much hope for, but the lemon seedlings would be nice Smile

thanks all!

dan
