Hi guys,

I have had a few citrus in the UK, but now live in Switzerland. Got a cracking 8 foot lemon tree, an absolue beauty!!

1. The temperature is up to about 5C or 41F overnight, can I move my plant outside?

2. I have 2 balconies, one facing East, one facing West, both are covered by a roof overhang. The temperature reached 35C last year. Shall I place the tree facing East or West, and shall I place in a position where the leaves will not get any direct sun?

3. Shall I gradually move the plants outside? Say during the day,and bring them in for the night?

Number 3 is your best bet, and yes don't just stick them out in the sun let them gradually aclimate and once it warms up a bit more you can leave them out overnight. There was a soil temp required but I can't remember ATM but someone else might have a bit kore info here.

I would suggest to move your plants outside -but choose a cloudy day for this step. My expierience is, that the longer you wait the bigger the problem with sunburn of Citrus leaves. 5°C should be no problem.
