I grew this from a seed about a year ago. The leaves are turning yellow and browning. I also grew a grapefruit seed. They both use the same soil - orchid soil, which was recommended to me. I water both around the same time. Usually every 4-5 days.

Here is what the leaves are turning into. Older leaves are getting it.

Here is my grapefruit plant, which is doing fine.

Thanks.[/img]

The burnt tips and the yellow leaf margins are caused by high levels of soluble salts in the medium (orchid soil). Flush the tree's container with clean clear water in the amount of 4 times the containers volume. This will flush the salts from the container, and resolve the problem. Flushing the container with clean clear water 3 times a year will prevent this from occurring again. - Millet (850-)

The soil was only 2 months old so I'm nit sure if it s the soil. I think it may have to do with the gravel I put in the bottom of the medium fir drainage. It is new gravel from my drive way. I repotted the plants today with new soil (same bag) and used pottery fragments for drainage. I am confused as to whymmy lemon is doing so bad compared to my grapefruit. Both are the same age and use same soil and fertilizer.

Depending on your water source, the amount of water you apply with each irrigation, the type of fertilizer and the fertilizer program you follow, 2 months is plenty of time to build up soluble salts. The symptoms shown by your tree are constant with soluble salt toxicity.

Note: adding material such as gravel, or a layer of shards to the bottom of a container does not improve drainage, doing so actually hinders the drainage. This is because adding such items raises the perched water table higher into the container. You can find out a lot of information on the "perched water table" and it affects on drainage using the search function on this forum, and in many places on the Internet. The very best to you and your trees. - Millet (848-)

Millet you say that , let's take my case, after a summer with 250ppm soluble Jack(Peters) fertilizers in every watering , I need to wash the CHC from the pot , even if no sign of problem has been until now Rolling Eyes ?

danero, flushing a container at any time is certainly not harmful, and generally beneficial, or even required when toxicity symptoms are evident. Personally, over the years, I have never seen a soluble salt problem develop with citrus trees growing in CHC. This is because of the excellent drainage that CHC, or a 4:1 or 4:2 pine bark medium. If you wish to flush your container before you bring it in for the winter, you certainly can. Regards, - Millet (848-)
