I noticed today that Poncirus trifoliata is naturalizing in my garden......pretty cool. Note all the first year seedlings growing again the base of the fence.

That's neat! You've a lot of lovely fruit there; you should make marmalade!

interesting.... some say size matters.... my poncirus trifoliata fruit is about golf ball size and up to 50% larger. Also the skin is all uneven and lumpy. This is the 1st year my PT has set fruit so this may be a maturity thing....

What is the diameter of the fruit shown on the ground?

Greg

Tim,
Usually you think of citrus seeds dying if they freeze, but I'm assuming that your fruits were lying on the ground and that they froze solid. Would that be your guess too or was this from a year that everything got protected from early snow? Just wondering if Poncirus seeds can be frozen for storage.

Hi Greg

sorry for the long delay here...........here's is the size of the fruit. The measuring tape is in inches. I'm not sure if the fruit shrunk since they have been on the ground for over a month now. They are larger than the PT flying dragon fruit I saw in another garden in New Jersey.

The fruit definitely froze solid over winter. There is NO WAY the fruit were not frozen solid....none, zip, nada. The other day stayed in the 20'sF all day long with very strong winds.....and no snow cover.....they were rock solid. If you want seed let me know.

Hi Frank

I did taste the PT juice...........I didn't taste any off flavors at all, but it didn't taste like a lemon/grapefruit either.............the fruit doesn't smell all that nice. Note that I tasted the juice only not the pulp or rind. I have a feeling the pulp and rind may taste really bad
