California is becoming a larger force in the domestic tangerine market, as new acreage comes into production.

U.S. Agriculture Department report issued yesterday (Wednesday) says California fruit will account for 40 percent of domestic tangerine production this season. Florida remains the top tangerine producer, but very little new acreage has been planted there. In California, farmers have been planting new groves especially of clementines and other mandarin-variety tangerines.

I just finished a box of California seedless mandarins. I can certainly understand why few would want to invest capital in citrus production in the state of Florida.
