Greetings all,

I've been growing container citrus for a few years now in Atlanta, Georgia and I thought I'd share some photos of my collection. Some of the photos are so-so as I took them in the morning before the sun hit the trees. Maybe I'll post some more later..

Hirado Buntan pummelo on the left and Variegated Pink Lemon on the right and my cat, Grainne with her cat grass at the bottom.

The buds on the Variegated Pink Lemon are tinged purple. They're really nice against the variegated foliage.

Mexican lime

My poor Marsh grapefruit -- it had a fight with mealy bugs last winter and almost died, but its recovering now. All the growth at the bottom is new and above the graft. After I took these pictures I noticed that its also starting to have another growth flush. Maybe it will look like a tree again soon!.

A meyer lemon and a limequat (Eustis maybe?) together in one pot. They were sold as a "fruit cocktail" tree, but they were really just two cuttings rooted in the same pot. I separated the root balls and repotted them, but I had to put them back in one pot to save space.

The limequat hasn't stopped flowering all summer!

A Valencia orange

I love to cook Thai food, so I had to have a Kieffer lime!

Some fruit on the Kieffer

A little calamondin - but its growing like crazy...

New Calamondin fruit

A Meyer lemon -- this one had to be pruned back severly because of damage from mealy bugs in the winter, but it has sprung back well.

Here's the whole left side of the porch. The tree in the corner there is a Moro Blood orange. I didn't get any good pictures of it. It was my first tree, but it has never bloomed.

Here's the whole right side of the porch.

Here's my porch guardian. She loves it out there...

Ok, so they're not citrus, but I liked the photo. I bought these for my girlfriend, but I'm their caretaker Smile

Well, I hope you like my trees. Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing. You have a nice collection started, and they all for the most part look quite healthy. - Millet

Thanks Millet.

They're all doing fairly well at this point. I'm starting to get this thing figured out. I had some pH problems starting out, and then have fought bugs every winter when they're indoors. I've moved recently and how have a better place for them in the winter, so I'm hoping I can do a better job with the pests this time.

Do you have any thoughts on how to care for the recovering grapefruit that I showed?

Before it died back, all the limbs were 24" or so above the ground, but all the new growth has been much lower (maybe 4" above the ground, 1" above the graft). I'm not sure if I should prune it back to tree form or let it re-grow as a bush. I'm letting it grow for now, just to get some leaves for photosynthesis but am wondering if I should prune back the lower branches at some point.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Pelham

You can prune the lower branches back to make your grapefruit a standard tree form instead of a bush style tree. But I would not do anything until the tree has fully recovered. The skirt (bottom low branches around a citrus tree) many times is very productive with fruit. - Millet

Nice collection! Very Happy

Is this a start of citrus addiction or in the process of gratifying the citrus addiction? Laughing

Thanks for the advice Millet. I'll leave well enough alone for now.

Joe - I would certainly consider myself a citroholic at this point (with currently no intentions of recovering). I made a list of the varieties I would still like to get - I came up with about 30 without even trying!

I don't have that much more room on the balcony, so I'm thinking I'll have to limit it to a few for now. Next on the list: Sanbokan lemon, Meiwa kumquat and probably a satsuma - Owari maybe? Even better would be the "raspberry tangor" (umatilla x moro). I saw it here: http://members.fortunecity.com/pjsauber/NewHybrids.htm#

Anyone know where to get that one?

I'm hoping to get a house in maybe a year or two -- then I can have a greenhouse and the real mayhem will begin Laughing

Hi Patty,

I WISH it were water! That'd be great to live on the water...

Its unfortunately not water. It's actually the roof of a building just behind mine. I live in the city, and I'm above the ground floor. I have a ncie view - it faces south and west -- it's GREAT for sunsets, and the citrus get good sun for most of the day. And for the most part the trees block out the building if I'm sitting outside - I almost forget I'm in the city Smile
