I discovered yesterday that one of my changsha's has produced a varigated branch. Upon closer inspection, it looks as if the variegation was showing in the wood before it began in the leaves. The stem was half variegated last year and the side that faces the sun was sunburned and healed over. The new foliage is beautiful and it is blooming. I am going to trim off the rest of the green parts of the bush and try to push the variegated portion along. I will try to post a pic.

Thanks for posting the pics Laaz. The entire plant is only about 4' tall and very bushy. It is a rooted cutting from an old changhsa specimen. I did not even notice the variegation in the woody stem last year. I can see where the variegated portion of the stem sunburned on the E side as it is protected on the W side by a wood fence. I will provide some shade if the foliage begins to scorch as it is in all day, TX sun. It's strange that the wood showed the variegation before the leaves. I plan to cut off the green parts this weekend in an effort to focus the growth on the variegated portion.
