I live in South Carolina upstate in zone 8a with red clay soil.
I have a new 1 gal size Citrumello grapefruit and need advice on whether to plant it in ground now, or should I wait till next year allowing it to gain more size.
If I do plant now, what are your recommendations as far as amendments etc.?
I have experience with potted citrus, but would now like to try a hardy one in ground.

Randall Citrumello should be fully hardy in your area. I would plant it now. I also would not amend the soil, as that can cause drainage problems. We have about the same type soil here in Charleston & most all Trifoliate types do very well here. Citrumello is a very aggressive grower.

for the reply and advice. I'm new to this board and this was my first post.
I'm really surprised at all the views my post got, but only one response.
Thank you for helping out a fellow grower.
