Here is a stalk of S. Louisiana Bananas that I cut today. I have more and bigger bunches but this one was starting to turn yellow so I cut it. Will let it hang in the kitchen for two days and it will be ready for eating or making that pudding....They did not get all the water they needed this year or they would have been longer bananas....but they will do. Dont pay any attention to that ugly face in the pic....its just me.

Looks like good eating. I see you are in Livingston, home of the famous LIGO Observatory. - Millet (1,270) |

Yes..........LIGO is here...............I am OK with it being somewhere else.........for I opine that it has made no difference in the lives of anyone.........but that is just my opinion...................I like the Parish...its growing and its a good place to live.......no comparison with Orleans or Baton Rouge .............David |

Hi Susan
I am sorry but I do not know what cultivar they are. They are the best bananas I have ever seen. They produce constantly each year with many stalks of good big bananas. They have a good flavor and eat well..............I put them on all kinds of stuff...ice cream and peanut butter and banana sandwiches and just eat them off the stalk. I bought the property years ago and the bananas were there when I purchased it. The lady says that her husband planted them and she thinks they might be a Florida strain....but that is just what she thinks...........wish I could name them for you but I can not. Thanks for the response and take care...David |

How long does it take the fruit to mature from flowers? Do you protect your banana from arctic air mass? |

Hi T
The fruit starts getting ready to eat in September....some ripen later just before frost which is usually Feb here is S Louisiana. I give them no protection...we have very little Artic Air here....some this year but that is unusual................David |
