I was one of the folks that asked about this, after Millet posted a thread and suggested it. So I guess I can start it.
I have a bunch of Calamondins ripe and I have been debating what and when I will do something with them. If you want any of these seeds, Please let me know.

I guess everybody already has Calamondins. Either that or nobody LIKES them!
The offer stands for as long as I have some, and I have plenty!

Seeds, we don't like, but the fruits, yes!
Certainly, Benny and I are not nobodies, LOL! We can never have enough calamondins.
Nope, we don't eat calamondins, we use them in thousands of recipes. We clean our hands with them, we use it as disinfectants to minor cuts, make cough medicines out of it, very good warm juice drink if you have flu or fever, we can make our garbage "blender" smell so good by using them, we make wines, marmalades, we can mix it with beer just like key limes, we can mix it with gin to make good tonic, and each seafood platter we accompany with calamondins as our number 1 choice as condiment, sudachi, yuzu would be close secondary choices and the bottom of the list would be lemons. Especially with crabs, lobsters, shrimps, oysters, they're never as good without a dash of calamondin juices here and there. When we go fishing, and if we indeed catch fish, take two or more unripe calamondins and crush them and rub our hands, and the fish smell is gone.
So many uses for us. Best flavor as condiment is when it just starts to turn yellow green. When the skin turns yellow to orange, it would have totally lost its power and the only good thing for that is a marmalade.
So can you really say that nobody likes them?
Just simply don't eat the seeds nor the fruits directly, that is very wrong way to appreciate calamondins (although I know several friends who would eat calamondin fruits directly). |

Hello Darren,
Minnesota would love to try growing a few Cal's. If you still have some seed I would love a few. My space is limited, but I can always make room for a new tree or two so.....let me know if you still have some seed and I will PM add info and gladly pay you for postage etc. Thanks Joan _________________

Hey Joe,
I too enjoy Calamondins, I just figured everybody already grew them or wasn't interested in them.
I am actually one of those people that will pick them and wander around eating it fresh in hand. That is probably why I really liked the 10 degree Tangerine...see other post on this forum.
I have also made a Calamondin Meringue Pie or two and attempted candied Calamondins. They would have been good, I just didn't cook them long enough, better next time I am sure.
Joan and Gina, You have PM's

Darren,
Do you still have any available? I just started my citrus bug and don't have any Calamondins. I would love to be able to add to my newly started collection.
Thanks,
Tim |
