Oh, my achey breaky back!
Here is a pic of it w/rootball sitting on dolly with pup attached (leaf unfurling). The tree in center is a pup I chopped off 2 months ago, & the one on right is a Dbl Mahoi (has 2 pups on) from Garnetmoth 2 yrs ago (what happened to Garnetmoth???). The big IC is now potted up & in sunroom for winter. If it doesn't flower next year, I will need help digging & potting it.
I know what Laaz is saying : "lotsa luck Patty, you have a long time to go for a flower". I'm DETERMINED to keep doing this till I get a frickin flower!
In June 06, this was a 2 incher in 2 inch pot - from culture, so it was slow growing that year. The stem is 5 ft & from soil to top of leaves is over 8ft

I've got 3 varieties of bananas now-- Raji Puri, Dwarf Cavendish and whatever variety I got from where I used to work. I have the unknown variety inground, but will bring a couple stems in my shop for winter, the rest of the inground stems will stay outside. The others are in pots and will come inside. _________________ Skeet

I have a SD Cavendish with a pup. Any advice about the pup? When to remove or tricks to removing.

Kyle, just make sure the pup is at LEAST 12-14 inches tall. Here is a link & pic that shows how to cut a pup off. You might even want to leave it on till spring as it gets its food from mamma and may get root rot during winter by itself. They need more heat to get adapted to a separate pot.

I'm borrowing this from Bananas.org gallery:

No greenhouse for me Jay. I built a well insulated - almost 13 ft high sunroom just for plants in winter, & I don't have to heat it.
Now I have to bring in my Dragon Fruit. It will be harder than nanna, with 6ft trellis & very top heavy. EEEK _________________ Patty

Top heavy with stickers--don't let it get you!
That will be my biggest pain this winter-- I have 4 I grew from seed. The white one is not that big, but a couple of the red ones are getting a bit unwieldy. Moving them in and out is going to be a pain! _________________ Skeet

Can't you just leave them in the sunroom then? Those bananas get much bigger and it's gonna be a bear! |

A year from now it will be much heavier but I'll use a 2x4 & leverage to get rootball out on dolly & wheel it. Will have to tie leaves up & tip dolly to get it thru doorway. Geeze, I'm tired thinking about it!!! And, next year I'll have my big & strong fiance' to help. If it doesn't flower next yr., I'm leaving it in pot. I want home grown nannas!!!
About Double Mahoi....how long does it take for them to flower? I had that since '06 too. _________________ Patty

Great job Patty! I am jealous. This past year I tried my first Musa basjoo. Love the look of it!

Hey Vinny, how ya been? You grow nannas too!? They are cool looking plants & will be more rewarding when/if they flower.
I need more plants like a hole in the head, but I just got 2 more nannas in mail today...raja puri (s'posed to taste really good) & Siam Ruby (cool red leaves). Both tissue cultured so they are only 6 & 8 inches high.
How's the figgies? _________________ Patty
