Has any one tried a styrafoam egg incubator to germinate seeds? I use one I bought on E-Bay for I believe $30. It will keep temp. + or - .10 of a degree. Have had a 90% germination rate. If I remove seed coating, will sprout in 1--1 1/2 weeks. If coating is left on will sprout in 2--2 1/2 weeks. Have tried it on Orange, Kumquat, lime; all sprouted in about the same time frame.

Hi!! Yes, Ive used egg incubators to sprout seeds and they work wonderfully. I usually set it to around 30 degrees C. Ive germinated Adenium Obesum seeds, date palms and lots of different citrus seeds. The only problem Ive found is that most incubators use fans to keep an even temperature throughout the enclosure so if you dont cover your medium(I usually use peat moss) with a sheet of kitchen wrapping plastic or something like it the surface will dry out in less than a day and may kill the seedlings. You can also take advantage of this fact by letting the surface of the medium dry a bit every once in a while to prevent damping off. You just have to be careful not to overdo it.

I highly recommend the method being that old and used incubators are probably cheaper and more reliable than heat mats.
