Hi, I'm planning on planting Valencia in the desert in Egypt in a soil that I think would be considered a loamy sand which is calcareous and has a high ph. If the soil is wet and I squeeze it in my hand, it will stay together in a clump. But if I put a solid clump of it in water, it breaks down right away. My question is: is this type of desert soil OK for me to plant the trees in, or do I have to ammend it with compost or something? Since it is a large plot of land, I'm worried that adding compost for all the trees will be very expensive. I would greatly appreciate any advice.
