Frank, it depends on what you call dwarf? There are the super dwarf varieties like the Super Dwarf Cavendish that grow to about 4-feet. I consider a dwarf banana to be all varieties that grow to 10-foot or less.

Double Banana "Mahoi" 7- feet
Dwarf Brazilian - 6-8-feet
Dwarf Caavendish 6-7-feet (one of the best)
Dwarf Kalapua 10-feet (Univ. of Florida variety)
Dwarf Orinoco 6-7 feet (wind & cold resistant)
Dwarf Red 6-8 feet (red colored fruit)
Grand Nain "Chiquita" 8-feet (A great banana)
Rajapouri 8-10 feet (red Fruit - recommended for beginners)
Thousand Fingers 10-12 feet (Fruit bunch up to 10-feet)
Williams Hybrid 6-9 feet (bears large bunches of good fruit)

Millet (666-)

You can purchase many of these varieties from:
Stokes Tropicals
1-800-624-9706

Going Bananas
Homestead FL 33032
(305) 247-0397

J.D. Anderson Nursery
Fallbrook, CA 92028

Their website lists more than 50 cultivars.

I've grown many of these bananas plus other varieties. I would recommend either Grain Nain (Chiquita), or Williams Hybrid

The length of time all depends on the amount, and length of heat that the banana receives. The Williams hybrid and the Gran Nain flower around the 15-18 leaf (at least for me in my greenhouse) - Millet (662-)
